no surrender

So. I can't make Pete write the postings forever. Eventually he'll start to think of it as 'his site', and then it will be one long football analysis piece, and I won't have a leg to stand on.

Unfortunately fighting over who gets to use the computer next, playing backgammon with randoms on the internet (Pete only, I have not sunk this low), jogging, reading the newspaper, washing AND drying the dishes after every meal just doesn't motivate me to fill the pages the way hiding in a toilet from an elephant does. Why is that?

This weekend, at least, we did some noteworthy things. Saturday, lunch with the lovely Keith, Lucy, Sam and Charlie followed by a reunion with the Mary Newmans that didn't last nearly long enough.

Sunday was Open House London - an opportunity to go inside 'some of the capital's best architecture'. Pete and I did our bit by wandering around a house at the end of our road for about 4 minutes. We followed that by an aborted trip to the Houses of Parliament - cut short when we saw the queue of about 400 other geeks waiting to get in. We had better luck with the Foreign Office. Even Pete was almost interested, although I think he was at his happiest when taking pictures of the patterned carpet.

Unfortunately all the post-modernist eco houses that I had put hearts beside in the brochure were miles away in New Cross Gate or Hackney and even I didn't fancy dragging myself across London on the bus (the only method of transport allowed on our meagre budget)... speaking of the bus... rather embarassingly all the recruitment consultants I've been speaking to lately have now learned that I like to travel 'off peak' to interviews (so that I can save £1.30 on my travel card). Have I hit rock bottom? I really do need a job soon, if only so that I can take public transport like a normal person again.

Hi Courtney, looks like you've attracted some comment spam, or you have some strange friends.

On this "open house" day a few years back we visited BBC Broadcasting House, as I was doing some work there and knew the guy who organised the tours. My cherished memory was seeing our then-four-year-old twins rolling around on the deep pile carpet in the chamber of the Board of Governors, under the watchful gaze of the portrait of Lord Reith.

Cheers
Rob
